This pattern is perfect for a simple scarf, such as a beginner might make as soon as she has learned to knit purl and knit in the round. Such a scarf shows the same attractive texture any way it is turned, and looks very "professional" despite the simplicity of the pattern.
Cast on a multiple of 8 stitches.
Rounds 1 - 2: * Knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 5; repeat from * to end.
Rounds 3 - 4: Knit 1, purl 1, * Knit 5, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1; repeat from * to last 6 sts, knit 5, purl 1.
Rounds 5 - 6: Knit 1, * purl 5, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1; repeat from * to last 7 sts, purl 5, knit 1, purl 1.
Rounds 7 - 8: * Knit 5, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1; repeat from * to end.
Rounds 9 - 10: Purl 4, * Knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 5; repeat from * to last 4 sts, (knit 1, purl 1) twice.
Rounds 11 - 12: Knit 3, * purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 5; repeat from * to last 5 sts, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 2.
Rounds 13 - 14: Purl 2, * Knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 5; repeat from * to last 6 sts, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 3.
