This Rib and Welt Diagonal stitch is perfect for a cowl because it uses knit and purl stitches and is worked in the round.

  • Cast on a multiple of 8 stitches.
  • 16-round repeat.

    • Rounds 1 - 2: * Knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 5; repeat from * to end.
    Rounds 3 - 4: Knit 1, purl 1, * Knit 5, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1; repeat from * to last 6 sts, knit 5, purl 1.
    Rounds 5 - 6: Knit 1, * purl 5, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1; repeat from * to last 7 sts, purl 5, knit 1, purl 1.
    Rounds 7 - 8: * Knit 5, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1; repeat from * to end.
    Rounds 9 - 10: Purl 4, * Knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 5; repeat from * to last 4 sts, (knit 1, purl 1) twice.
